Anxiety
One of the biggest issues of the day is anxiety. Are you someone who is grappling with this and needs to find a way to deal with it? Do you need to find a solution? Maybe you're on medication for it but would like to find another way to handle it. Let’s talk here about a Homeopathic approach.
To begin with - what is anxiety? How can we deal with it? What do you feel? Is there a difference between anxiety and panic attacks? If I was a Martian sitting on your head with probes, what chatter would I hear? What inner dialogue would I hear? Whereabouts in life does this come from? Did something happen? Where in your body does anxiety manifest?
“Anxiety Disorders: Anxiety is a cause for concern when symptoms are persistent and severe and cause distress to the person’s daily life”. According to CAMH.
Let's dig a little deeper. Anxiety about what? There are over 900 remedies for this alone so a Homeopath needs to ask a lot of questions, questions that will sometimes give you an “Ah ha” moment: A homeopath might ask:
Is there a time of day that is worse/better for you? Is there a situation that makes it worse? What happens in your body when you are feeling anxious? For example do you experience heat, sweat, heart palpitations, restlessness, GI issues, breathing issues. Once again, did something happen to bring this on? Are you in pain? If so where and what is the pain like?
What is behind anxiety? Typically it's a fear of some description. From a homeopathic point of view, it is important for a practitioner to dig deep into this mental/emotional state, so that we can distinguish - or differentiate - symptoms to get enough information about you and your experience, to be able to find the right remedy for you. No two people experience anxiety the same way, so this is where we need to individualise the experience.
Some of the biggest fears behind anxiety are:
- Fear of the future
- Fear of poverty
- Fear of getting sick and all that entails
- Fear of death
- Fear of being alone
- Fear of loss of control
- Fear of disease - and which one?
The list is endless. Then here too, with fear, we need to consider what makes it worse, or better. Where in the body do you feel it, what do you feel? Is there anything else going on at the same time?
